Social Disorganization Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Social Disorganization - Research Paper Example The paper "Social Disorganization" examines how does social disorganization relate to organized crime and its evolution. The case of gang culture could remarkably deviate from the prevailing order within the society. Within the gang culture, it could be evident that in one way or another, there is a presence of leadership that is either organized or unorganized. There might be order within this culture, but from the point of view of the society, there is a deviation from the actual law enforced by the people. It is in this case that one could link the case of gang culture with social disorganization. It is important to understand how does social disorganization relate to organized crime and its evolution. One substantial case that could explicate this point is gang culture. Gangs have substantive culture that within it there is a great presence of shared values and beliefs. What makes this shared values and beliefs became a success is the point in which gangs have remarkably hired ne w set of members and flourish due to unsuccessful prosecution effort and even worst, becoming legitimate business. All of these could remarkably start within street gangs. The evolution is so tough, but the bottom line paves the way for organizing street gangs into something vibrant readily associated with business that could also interconnect with corrupt officials, which eventually strengthens them further to become established crime groups. Social disorganization could become established organized crime.... Eventually social disorganization meets the criteria of organized crime because just like the latter, it is completely against the prevailing values and set standard by the society through the prevailing law emancipated for the protection of everybodyââ¬â¢s freedom or right. Law-breaking behavior is generally present within the context of social disorganization and ultimately street gangs could evolve as groups that would have fundamental association with corrupt officials leading to their social, economic and political power. Due to these fundamental reasons, there is not doubt that social disorganization such as in the case of gang culture eventually meets the criteria for organized crime. In fact, its evolution substantially completes the achievement of these criteria. Corrupt political machine and social disorganization As already stated, a full-pledged or grown up group of street gangs eventually make it a point to consider undertaking maximum gain through establishing a busi ness for the survival of the group and maximum benefits of each member. However, along the way, social disorganization such as in the case of street gangs and their evolution would try to make it a point to maximize the achievement of relevant gains for the benefits of their groups. In reality, they have close tie or connection with corrupt officials (Lyman & Porter, 2007). In other words, the more there will be corrupt officials, social disorganization continues to prevail and even continue to move in an upward spiral. It is due to the fact that the presence of these corrupt political machines creates the competitive advantage of social disorganization and

10.What was the impact of the French Revolution on the European system Essay
10.What was the impact of the French Revolution on the European system - Essay Example There was ââ¬Å"a vast peasantry accounting for one in seven or one in eight of the population, most of whom were legally free but bound to their seigneur â⬠¦ by a myriad of services and obligations surviving from the medieval past. â⬠¦ And, in cities, â⬠¦ a great urban population of innumerable crafts and occupations, for the most part poor and depending for survival on cheap and plentiful breadâ⬠(Rude 1995). When they rose up against their king, overthrew their monarchy and established a new social order, the French did something no other country on the European continent had done, which had a profound effect upon the other European nations who sat watching to see what would happen. This small war completely contained within the country and lasting only 12 years would send ripples throughout Europe and have consequences that would reach as far as North America and the Dutch East Indies (Taylor, 2006). The changes brought about by the French Revolution were cultur al, social and political. As the rumors spread regarding the fall of the Bastille, people in twenty-eight of the largest thirty cities in France were reported to have staged uprisings and hundreds of thousands of peasants in the rural areas attacked lordsââ¬â¢ manors and destroyed other symbols of the seigneurialism system throughout the summer of 1789. This gave rise to a wide-spread wave of mass panic, known now as the ââ¬Å"Great Fearâ⬠, in which the people pulled down the old system of French feudalism ââ¬Å"and the state machine of royal France lay in fragmentsâ⬠(Hobsbawm 1969) as the bourgeoisie drafted the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen and limited the Kingââ¬â¢s power. ââ¬Å"Between 1789-1791, the victorious moderate bourgeoisie, acting through what had now become the Constituent Assembly, set about the gigantic rationalization and reform of France â⬠¦ its policy for the peasantry was the enclosure of common lands and the encouragement of rural entrepreneurs, for the working-class,

Half Caste, by John Agard Essay Example for Free
Half Caste, by John Agard Essay Poetry is used by writers world wide to express them. Many of these poems are very negative and show it in the use, and misuse, of language. Other poems are more positive. Poets often use their work to express difficult situations. Half Caste is a good example of this because it portrays the writer in a negative situation that the writer expresses his opinions about. Unrelated incidents is a similar type of poem with a varying, but overall alike problem. The poem Not my business is a more literal poem. The poem is similar because it shows the poet in a difficult situation but the way the poet expresses himself is completely different. In Half Caste, by John Agard, the difficult situation is one of prejudice. The writer is expressing his dislike of the prejudice he suffers because he is of mixed race or, in his words, half caste. The word half-caste is shown to be the culprit in this poem and the entire poem ridicules the word and those who use it. The writer uses various strategies to achieve this goal. In the first paragraph the writer immediately draws the readers attention with an apology, excuse me, he says. This draws the readers attention because it is a very abrupt way of starting a poem and the reader continues to read to see what he is fact sorry for. Immediately, Agard shows that he was in fact being sarcastic. He uses the ridiculous imagery of a man standing on one leg to show the stupidity of the word half-caste. Agard continues to be ridiculous like this throughout the poem. Agard doesnt confine himself to ridiculous imagery though, he uses imagery of famous western icons to prove his point, yu mean when Picasso mix red an green is a half caste canvas. This is effective because to create a good painting an artist will probably have to mix colours, Agards point is that paintings with mixed colours are any worse so why should he be. He uses similar imagery using British weather and Tchaikovsky to prove the same point. The constant use of such imagery shows the reader the difficult situation rather than describing it, in Half Caste the writer uses it to show why e hates prejudice and by doing so tells the reader the prejudice he suffers. . Not my business also uses imagery, but the imagery is not as subtle and more literal. The poems starts with imagery of brutality beat him soft like clay. The imagery is very violent and suggests constant repetitive beating. The few words say masses; soft like clay suggests broken bones and tenderness. The imagery is very violent and portrays a very violent regime or lifestyle. This instantly shows the difficult situation in which the writer is in. Later in the poem more imagery is used. The constant repetition of savouring mouth and the personification of objects hungry hand and bewildered lawn create imagery of consumption. These constant images of consumption and brutality lets Osundare express his situation fully and more interestingly than if it had been written in prose. John Agard also uses a Jamaican dialect in Half Caste. In the entire poem he uses no punctuation, and spells everything phonetically according to the dialect. This deliberate misuse of the English language is an obvious rebellion to English standards. He writes in English but in a Jamaican dialect showing his problem of being Half Caste. This simple use of dialect says many things about his views on his stereotyping. He is rebelling against people who want him only to act English and people who are prejudiced against him. The use of dialect says that if English people discriminate against him then he will discriminate against the English language. Unrelated Incidents also uses dialect to show a difficult situation, this time the dialect is Scottish and its use is obvious. By using a Scottish dialect the writer instantly shows the difference between him scruff and the BBC accent he is opposed to. The difference in dialect shows the prejudice Leonard claims to suffer. The prejudice is not one of a different culture but one inside Britain. He is saying by using dialect that no one trusts him, or other Glaswegians because of their accent and their home. He says this in the poem as well by saying if a toktaboot thi trooth lik want to yoo scruff yi widny thingk it wuz troo.
For My Business Studies Coursework Personal Development Essay
For My Business Studies Coursework Personal Development Essay My business idea is a domestic cleaning service which I am providing in my local area of Doncaster. My service is called pink ladies and is a business which cleans offices and houses in the local area. The cleaning services which I am going to provide are: Domestic cleaning around home and offices Spring cleaning packages Packages with different aspect of cleaning Window cleaning Regular and one off cleans Daily/ weekly/ monthly Ironing and washing Emergency cleaning Brass cleaning Moving in/moving out cleaning Carpet cleaning My service will be providing trusted, trained and friendly staff. My service is for people who do not have time to clean, older people who cannot manage to clean, offices and busy working people. I have decided to do a cleaning business as they are little competition in my local area around the local area where I live for example Bessacarr, Cantley and Rossington. (See appendix). Due to this I thought this would be a good market as they are a lot of opportunities in my local area for business. I will use the money from my loan and the money which my grandparents have given me to set up Pink Ladies. My aims and objectives for Pink Ladies Aims I am setting aims so I can try and get what I want to achieve in the long run and what I want in the long run. Pink Ladies aims are: Increase market share- in the long run I want to try and be better then my competitors by getting the market share which is getting to be the highest in the market cleaning service. This can be done by doing advertising, having cheaper prices or the same price then competitors and training staff to provide a better overall service so more customers will come to Pink Ladies which will increase the market share. Maximum profit- When Pink Ladies is provide cleaning I want to get the maximum profit I can by getting the market share I will have more customer which will create more profit so I pay off my loans etc. By getting maximum profit, Pink ladies will be seen as a success. I will do this by advertising so people know about Pink ladies. Also trying to breakeven so I am making a profit and trying to beat competitors. I will maximum my success by making sure I monitor my competitors, make sure staff are well trained and provide a good quality service. I will get my customer involved with regular feedback to see how Pink Ladies can be improved. I will measure my sales by watching Pink Ladies market share and measure by profit by doing financial check ups to check my profit. Objectives An objective helps to set targets to achieve an aim. Pink Ladies objectives are: Maximum sales- This helps me achieve my aim of getting maximum profit as the more sales the more profit I will get. I will do this by advertising Pink Ladies and making sure I provide a good quality service so people recommend Pink Ladies so I can the most sales I can. To survive- it is very important that Pink Ladies survive as my business will not be successful and the money which I have put into it will have been wasted. I measure my survive with my breakeven and my cash flow forecast. I will achieve my aim of increasing market share as by achieve this is will be working my way up to the market share. I will achieve this by doing advertising and making sure that money is kept safe and recorded. To breakeven- I will need to breakeven to make a profit so this is important it helps me achieve my aim of maximum profit. I will do this by checking I am breaking even and making sure that I am doing advertising so people know about Pink Ladies. I must also make sure I charge the right prices. To expand to public or private limited company- By expanding it will achieve my aim of increasing market share. As by doing this I will be a bigger company which people are more likely to know about. I will do this by trying to let people know about my service Pink Ladies with advertising. To not get into unlimited liability-If my business fails I will get into unlimited liability so if I can pay off my debts, I will have to use my own possession. To make sure this doesnt happen I need to make sure that I check my finance regular so I met my aim of getting maximum profit. Run in a cost effective manner-By running in a cost effective manner, I will prevent waste by making sure waste is recorded and kept to a minimum with training with staff. By doing sure I will be able to make sure I do not spent any my profits on replacing waste. My other business ideas I decide to make two alternate business idea so I could research to see what would do better in the market. My first alternative idea- One of my idea for a business was a nail technician who visits people housing to do people nails who like to have their nails done at home or cannot get out. After doing secondary research (see research) they was too much competition around the Doncaster idea so it would be hard to try and get the market share and hard to get customer as they may already have a nail technician they like. For example of my competitors would be Bedazzled in Balby. My second alternative idea- My second alternative was a bouncy castle hire service for local people around Doncaster to provide events for parties and different events. After doing some secondary research I found in winter went the weather is cold it can affect sales which could affect if this business would be a success as less people have bouncy castle inside. This would mean I may not breakeven and not make much money. Materials are also very expensive to buy so it would take a lot of the money I have earning. I chose cleaning business of Pink Ladies as it can be done all year round in any weather, materials are cheap and they is little competition around Doncaster especially near the area I live. Primary research for Pink Ladies Primary research is getting information about a subject which is been collected and has not already been done. I did a questionnaire to 50 different people within different age groups. This is what I asked them. 1) what is your gender I asked equal amount of males and females so my results were fair as this would affect the people who I target my advertising on and the promotion I would do which would affect my marketing mix. 2) What age are you? I asked this to find what age group were more interested in my cleaning services. This would help the promotion and find the type of people I want to help me do my marketing mix. I mainly get results from people above 21 year old. 3) What part of Doncaster do you live in? Most people I asked live in: Bessacarr Cantley Bawtry Tickhill Sheffield Rossington Edentrope Adwick Thorne Hatfield Askern With these places except Sheffield as it is too far away, it will help me decide in my marketing mix the place which I am going to target my sales and promotion on. A lot of these are locally to my base on home. 4) Do you know any other cleaning company? I asked to find what my local competition is as this would help me watch out for them. They were: Poppies Diamond cleaning The feather duster PSS Done and dusted Star drops Help me see what prices they have on secondary research so I can decide on the price I will charge and promotion I will chose to beat my competitors. 5) Would you be interested in a cleaning service in your home or office? I asked this to see if they were any interest in the service which I was doing which related to my people in my marketing mix. Most people yes or maybe which is a positive sign as people may interest in my cleaning. It will affect my product in my marketing mix as it affect what service I provide. 6) Would you be interested in having cleaning in certain parts of the year for example Christmas time? Out of 50 people I question 38 of them said yes or maybe, this shows some people may be interested in my cleaning service being provided at special times. This affect the promotion I do at certain times of the year and the product I provide for this. It may mean offering special deals at special times of the year. 7) What kinds of jobs would you expect to be done around the home? I asked this to see what customers see a cleaner doing in their home and expect them to be like so I can could the product in the best quality. People said: Washing up Reliable, trustworthy, good hygiene Honest Dusting Hovering Cleaning surfaces Cleaning floors and hovering Spring cleaning General cleaning jobs Ironing By doing it will help me train my staff to be these things so customers do what they want and treat they well to create a good quality staff. This will affect my People at work and the product they receive. 8) What would be the most suitable time for cleaning to come and clean your house? A lot of the answer to this got the same results but more for morning cleaning. From doing this it shows that some people may prefer evening and this may affect the times could I could clean and the prices I charge for doing cleaning at night. It will help me find staff hours. 9) How much would you like to pay per hour for a cleaning service? By doing this it would help me decide on the price I will charge my customer per hour for my cleaning services. This could affect the people at work will what they get paid. I will decide my price with this and my competitions price. A lot of people would pay between 4.00- 5.00 pound but this may be too low for my costs. 10) What things influence you to a certain cleaning company? A lot of people prices and recommendation, this means I have to make sure that I create a good quality service so people are recommended to Pink Ladies as this will help my costs and get my aim of maximum profit. The price has to be similar to my competitors so people will pay it. 11) What physical environment you expect from cleaning service? I did this to find out what I could do to make Pink Ladies stand out from my competitors. This is what physical environment customer expect and I must train my staff to do: Friendly service Trustworthy Welcoming Good clean house Quality 12) How often would you want a cleaner to come to your house? The most common was weekly and 28 people would prefer it then. This will affect the promotion I do as I need to make I fit my regular customer in. It will also affect the price I charge them as they may want special packages for having regularly cleaning. 13) Would you be interested in special packages A lot were interested in the special packages as it is a way of saving money. 28 people were interested in this so this may be something to consider in my package deals. This will affect packaging and the products which I provide with the deals. From doing this questionnaire it has help me see what customer want a cleaning service so I can work my Pink Ladies business around this so I give the best service I can. Secondary research for Pink Ladies For my first bit of secondary research I found out by going on yell.com where my competitors are in my local area. This would help me as I found by ringing up the service which they provide and the prices they charge. This would help me decide on the services to often my customers and the prices to charge. This will help with my marketing mix. I have found my top five competitors and have found out their prices and the service they often. (see map in research) Company Service offered prices location Poppies Weekly/monthly/fortnightly cleans, one off cleans, spring cleans, carpet cleans, brass silver, emergency cleaning 8.00per hour Bessacarr PSS Tailor made programs, window cleaning, spring cleans, packages, weekly and monthly cleans 7.50 per hour 61 boughton road, Bessacarr The feather duster Washing and ironing, one off cleans, daily weekly, monthly 7.75 Thorne Maid to clean Weekly/monthly cleans, ironing, one off cleans 7.50 Town centre Stardrops Weekly/Daily cleans, ironing, one off cleans 7.50 Conisbrough From looking at my competitors I have found that poppies is my biggest competitor as it provides the most service, it is a national company and they are two cleaners working in the area. This means I must make sure I provide the same service and more so I look better then my competitors and the price will be cheaper or the same as my competitors. I am going to try and provide more service then poppies. In my marketing mix it will help me decide my price and the product I will provide in my marketing mix. I also look on poppies website to see how they persuade people to having cleaning done by them. I found that they say about the physical environment which is expected from them when cleaning which are the same which I found out from my questionnaire. I am going to make sure I promote this. (See research for website) To look at some more secondary research I decide to go on national statistics.com to look at the population and income of people. From looking at income and wealth I found that more people are earning more money which means more people can have the luxury of a cleaner. With wealth rising and longer hours at work, it means more and more people will need cleaners in the future. This affect my price which I charge due to how much people can afford and who I promotion and advertising my cleaning to. Household income is growing.(see research) I also looked at the population rate which is also going up which means more people in the world, more people who will want cleaning being done then pervious years. This will affect how many staff I have (people) and the amount of hours and the price I charge. Comparing the service which are offer between Pink Ladies and it competitors These are the service which I am offering as part of Pink Ladies: Domestic cleaning around home and offices Spring cleaning packages Packages with different aspect of cleaning Window cleaning Regular and one off cleans Daily/ weekly/ monthly Ironing and washing Emergency cleaning Brass cleaning Moving in/moving out cleaning Carpet cleaning Poppies as my biggest competitors provide these service except: Ironing and washing Packages deals Cleaning around offices Spring cleaning packages. Other services which my other competitors offer are the normal cleans and washing and ironing. BY providing more service it makes me stand out from my competitors as I have more choice so customers are more likely to come to me. My Proposal for Pink Ladies From doing my primary and secondary research I have made proposals on my service from talking to potential customers and looking at competitors. My biggest competition is from poppies which are in my local area of Bessacarr. I need to make sure I do promotion within my marketing mix so people know about the service I am providing. This may going to promotion in areas such as carcroft where they are no local cleaners. To make sure I am up to date with my competitors I will provide the same services and more service so I am more update and people come to my cleaning services. Due to the great variety in services. I must give the same physical environment which I found from my questionnaire and poppies website. I need to charge the same price as my competitors so my prices are not too high and try and be the lowest price in the market as people want cheaper prices shown when asking in the questionnaire I will use my questionnaire and my secondary research to make sure I decide correctly when doing my marketing mix. Market strategy for Pink Ladies This the strategies I will use to try and get the market share. For my market strategy to get the market share I am going to provide the service which my competitors offer so people are more likely to Pink Ladies as more service are offered. I will offer unique package deals so I look more up to date then my competitors. Another market strategy I am using is targeting area where competitions are not base to try and get customer from there, as this is how I will build my market share by promoting in the paper and leaflets to try and get customer and build my market share. I am also going to try the cheapest price of my competitors of 7.50 so people come to me as I am cheaper which will help build up my market share. Marketing mix of Pink Ladies A marketing mix is tactical components of a marketing plan. I am going to be looking at 6 p s of the marketing mix. Price- is what I am going to charge for my service for cleaning people houses. When looking to the research I did, I found from my questionnaire that People wanted to pay between 4-5 cleaning per hour however from secondary research I found that my competitors were charging between 7.50 and 8.00. When also looking at the profit a would make for 4.00- 5.00 I would not make a profit as it is my costs. So I decide to go for the lower price that my competitors changes which is 7.50 which is the cheapest. This will still make people come to Pink Ladies as it is the cheapest cleaning business. Packages will be charge per hour as well with two things done in the hour e.g. Carpet cleaning a room and certain cleaning. Place- this is where the goods are sold or services are placed. From doing my questionnaire I found out where people live in area of Doncaster to give me the place where my cleaning could be done. However in my secondary research I found where my competitors are situated so I could promote and get customer from area of Doncaster where not many cleaners are. I decide to try and get customer from carcroft, adwick, rossington and cantley. I am not buying any premises as I do not need one at the moment as they is only me to start with, I am going to use a home office at home. In the future I may need premises if Pink Ladies expand for staff breaks and for people book our cleaning. In the future I would try and situate near my local area as Bessacarr so I am near where I am hoping my customers will be around rossington from when I found out in my secondary research. I also would need to think about be near cash and carry as this would save money in petrol. If I bought a property in the fu ture, I would get a mortgage and spent about 50,000 on premises. This will depend on the housing and shop pricing at the time. Packaging- packaging can be packaging on a good but I am using package as a service. This is where you include two things together for a special deal.I will use packaging when doing my package deals. I research this in the primary research by asking if people would interest in package deals, I got a good response. From my secondary research I found that not other cleaners provide package deals, which makes my service unique and stand out from my competition. The package deals I would do is for example carpet and certain cleaning in the hour for 7.50 but would depend on the size of curtain or room. This would mean a person doesnt has pay for cleaning but certain jobs around the house. These may be common in certain times in the year as in my primary research a lot said they be interested in cleaning at special times at year such as Christmas. Product-this is the service which I am providing or if could be the product which I am selling. From doing my primary research I found if people would be interested in my service or workplace where I got a good response where a lot of people said no or maybe. I also ask when jobs would be expected by a cleaner. This and my secondary research of finding out what service by competitors decide, I decide to offer more service or the same so I am at the same stage as my competitors. These are the service which I will be offering: Domestic cleaning around home and offices Spring cleaning packages Packages with different aspect of cleaning Window cleaning Regular and one off cleans Daily/ weekly/ monthly Ironing and washing Emergency cleaning Brass cleaning Moving in/moving out cleaning Carpet cleaning From doing this research I can provide these service which my competitors do not provide such as cleaning packages. Promotion-This is tools to help promote a product or service to persuade people to buy the product or service. From doing my secondary research I found that people are attractive to certain cleaning company due to with the price and recommendation. This is why I need make sure I giving the best quality service at the lowest price. I need promote my cleaning service, Pink Ladies to make sure that people know that a new service and available. I will use this using leaflet through people doors in area which I am targeting, cantley, rossington, carcroft and adwick. I am going advertise my service through the paper every week to make sure people know about my service and the service which I provide. From my secondary I found that my biggest competitor poppies using persuade about the service they provide such as trustworthy, I am going to do this in my advertising to be at the same stage as my competition. By doing special package deals instead just cleaning, this one of the promotion I w ill be doing where I do two jobs such as carpet cleaning and curtain cleaning for 7.50 in a hour or two instead of a person getting their house cleaned. Physical environment- this is the physical environment which a cleaning service is given. This could be the feel of the service and an environment which a customer expects. From doing secondary research I am using my competitors ideas of the physical environment they expect from cleaning. These are things like trust and friendly. In my primary research I also find that the customer wanted these things out of service for a physical environment from cleaning: Friendly Trustworthy Welcoming Good environment Good cleaning Good quality These are things I will be using to make sure that customers feel like the environment around them is to a good standard. People-People is the people within a business such as staff; I need to make sure that my staff provides the physical environment customers want from cleaning. This will when having staff in the future. I found this out from my primary and secondary research about what people what out of a business. For this staff will need training when I get staff in the future when I expand. Further explanation of place- At the moment Pink Ladies will be ran from home as they is no need for a place as it is not a big enough company jet. When Pink Ladies expand I will need a place where my customer can come and book, and office work can be done from a central point. If I was to get a shop where I could run things from, I would spent 100,000 pounds and try and get a place in the local area where I started or in town. Town is more direct for customers for customers to get to however it depend if they is a property available at my price range. It would be connivance in the town centre as customer and staff would be able to access it easily however I would need parking available to store company vans and cars when not being used and for staff to gain easier access. I would provide a place where customer can come and inquire, and be able to employee people to do paper work and equipment can be stored. This depends on how well Pink Ladies do as they need to expand before they d o this. SWOT analysis of Pink Ladies A SWOT analysis is helping manage the risk of making decision and help see what a business current position is in. Product extensions when more equipment is bought. Threats This is a potential problem within a business in the future. Pink Ladies threats are: A lot of competitors within the cleaning industrial and people are setting cleaning company all the time Poppies have a high market share New legislation to do with staff and materials may affect the business in the futures PEST analysis of Pink Ladies This is where a business analysis the external macro environment, looking what might affect the business from the outside. PEST is made up of political, economic, social and technology factors. Political factors- These are government regulation, legal issue and laws which a business such operate under. The factors which may affect Pink Ladies are: Employment laws- In the future when I expand and get staff, employment laws may affect Pink Ladies as I have to consider employment laws such as minimum wage and hour people are allow to work. I need to make sure that no one id discriminated through my workplace. This could affect Pink Ladies as training will need to be done about discrimination and more money may need to pay for more staff. If the minimum wage goes up, I will lose profit as I will have to pay for wages Environment regulation- As Pink Ladies using chemical within the business, I need make sure they are dispose of correctly and control. This will affect Pink Ladies as more money spending on making sure some substance are taking to dumping sites etc. this well cost money in petrol and training staff how to get rid of certain substances. National insurance and Tax- When I come to end of Pink Ladies working year, I will have to pay a total amount of tax if a make a certain amount of profit. These are the affects which would affect Pink Ladies: Economic wealth-This is depended on the customers and how much money they have to spent. If wages increase then more people are likely to have cleaners as they have more money to spend. However if wages go down it will mean less people will have money to hire cleaners. VOT-This tax with is added on to certain which are buying. If VOT goes up then it will affect Pink Ladies stock prices as they will have to pay more and things petrol will be more. However if they go down it will mean Pink Ladies has less money to spent Social factors-this is demographic and culture aspects. This affects the customer needs and wants which could include age distribution. Social factors could affect Pink Ladies by: Population growth rate- If the birth rate is rising in the UK, this means they will be more people in the world who may want cleaning which means they would be a better demand. However if the population lower it would mean that they would be less demand for cleaning. Emphasis on safety- This could be social factors which emphasis on cleaning and safety. This may cleaning may not seen as safe so it may be hard to find staff due working with chemical. This means it is important that I protect my staff from any dangers. This may more money spent on training and making sure staffs are safe. Technology factors- this relates to technology which is available. This could affect Pink Ladies as: Rate of technological change- When changes to technology occur, this may means spending money keeping up to date with the latest technology as my competitors may provide a better service them me due to better technology. This may mean Pink Ladies spending money to keep up to date. Latest technology- If Pink Ladies can afford the new technology or not, people are more likely to go to service with better technology which could cause problems with losing customers.

In the play Glengarry Glen Ross, selling is like a complicated courtship. Richard Roma is sales. Throughout the play, we never once get a true insight into the real Richard Roma. All we know is that he is good at his job, greedy and calculating. His demeanor changes on a dime; he is whoever he needs to be in whatever situation he happens to be in. This is his edge. à à à à à Roma starts out as a pseudo-intellectual sitting in a restaurant. He sees a man that he has never met before, Mr. Lingk, sitting by himself. Roma decides to try and make a completely unplanned sale. Roma starts out easy, not wanting to raise the strangerââ¬â¢s defenses by saying immediately that he is a salesman. Roma begins talking about simple things that any man could relate to. Roma captures Lingkââ¬â¢s interest, gains his trust, and artfully pitches his sale in the guise of a disillusioned salesman just trying to help a fellow man out. à à à à à The last thought on Lingkââ¬â¢s mind is to invest in real estate, but Roma puts on his ââ¬Å"good olââ¬â¢ boyâ⬠face, and makes the sale anyway. à à à à à When Lingk comes to see Roma at the office the next day to cancel the sale, Roma is ready to play the game. Without any preparation time, Roma cues Levene, and slips easily into his faà §ade of the night before. à à à à à First, Roma tries to distract Lingk from the purpose of his visit by introducing him to an ââ¬Å"impressive businessmanâ⬠that Roma supposedly does much business with. Levene is an old campaigner himself, and has no problem slipping into his part. By making Lingk think that Roma does business with someone of so much influence, Roma is also hoping to increase his credibility and authority with Lingk. When Lingk persists in his urgency to talk with Roma about the cancellation of his sale, Roma makes an excuse to leave the office, wanting to stall Lingk until the sale is irreversible. Lingk is not put off, so Roma tries to shame Lingk by making him admit that he is bowing to pressure from his wife. This strikes a nerve within Lingk, so Roma persists, and starts to convince Lingk that the problem lies not within the purchase of land, but within Lingkââ¬â¢s lack of authority in his marriage. This, of course, is a very subtle but vicious move. Roma is basically insulting Lingkââ¬â¢s manhood.

Negative Effects of Technology Depicted in Aldous Huxleys Brave New Wo
Negative Effects of Technology Depicted in Aldous Huxley's Brave New World Imagine a life where the technology is so great that no one ever has to be worried about being sad or bothered by all the day to day stress. In Brave New World published in 1932, Aldous Huxley brings the reader into the future of London to see just what technology can do to a society. As the novel opens, the reader learns about how the futuristic London is a Utopia, what life is like, and all about the great technological advancements. After Bernard is introduced to the reader, he goes to the Reservation and meets John, the Salvage, where he finds out how different life is between the two societies. In the end, the Controller Mustapha Mond sends Bernard and John away from London so the stability of the society will not be affected by the truth of "real freedom." Throughout the novel, Huxley portrays a dystopia through the settings, its characters and the theme. Dystopia is displayed by the speech, thoughts, and actions of the character whereby the reader learns that London is not perfect in every way, shape or form. The futuristic London has its flaws as is shown by Bernard and John. The narrator says, "Talking about [Lenina] as though she were a bit of meat.' Bernard ground his teeth" (53). At this point, Bernard is upset with two controllers because they are talking about having sex with a girl. In London, since there are no mothers or fathers, they have no idea what the meaning of love is so they have sex as if it were a game. In this scene, Bernard is upset at the fact that they are talking about this girl in such a manner that shows no respect for her. It is as if he has some kind of feelings for the girl even though he is not supposed to have ... ...an take soma to heal everything quickly. Huxley portrays this as not true happiness or freedom. Technology, it seems, is so great that people are enslaved by it. The futuristic London is supposed to be the perfect place- the Utopia of the future. Throughout the novel, Huxley portrays London as a dystopia instead of a Utopia by using theme, characters and setting. The advancement in the technology no longer lets people experience the finest things in life- emotions. The true meaning of life has been transformed to make London the perfect place, but it is perfect only to the slaves who are a part of it. One message that Huxley is trying to impart to the reader is technology is good, but too much technology can ruin the world that people live in today; it becomes all encompassing towards its own goals. Improving the process of target setting
Personalised larning alternatively of kids acquiring a one- size-fits-all schoolingPersonalised acquisition has come about as consequence of a response to an Ofsted Inspection that pointed to the demand to better the procedure of mark puting for scholars at an single degree. I was asked to fly one of 10 countries for this enterprise. The group I choose for the pilot was an E2E group ; unlike other E2E groups in the college who develop their accomplishments on entry to employment these pupils have both E2E lessons and their chief topic which is a flat 1 Diploma in Bricklaying, a one twelvemonth class. My job is this ; the group I am working with on this enterprise have makings below what is needed for our new Diploma degree 1 in bricklaying. So we have brought them in for an excess afternoon for completion of two makings, Entry to employment and a building Diploma. This I feel is stacking excess work on a group which would fight on merely one making, the Diploma. ( Appendix 1 entry for 8/1/09 ) I take this group on a Friday forenoon for 1 hr of group tutorial followed up with single tutorials. My Individualized acquisition session follows these. Each pupil will be timetabled for a slot of about half an hr I have found that this varies greatly with each pupil some have needed 1 hr ( appendix 4 entry for 2/2/09 ) others merely 20 proceedingss. During this session we will discourse their practical appraisal theoretical accounts which they will construct in the workshop and see the virtues of clip direction and building techniques of constructing these constructions. Upon completion they will so necessitate to critically measure how they have done and reflect on what they could make to accomplish a higher class on their following undertaking. This is a monumental undertaking for any of these pupils as for most pupils interrupting down a undertaking into manageable pieces and so reflecting how this could be achieved to a higher criterion is non necessary high on the docket of a 16 twelvemonth old. During my Sessionss with my scholars I found it peculiarly hard non to take over and give them excessively much advice this should be their larning curve non mine. I have found teaching pupils to reflect one of the most hard topics for them to acquire their caputs and mine. I have used different methods of contemplation from theoreticians to assist in develop their brooding accomplishments every bit good as mine. ââ¬Å" it is non until an unsure state of affairs occurs a individual will believe about what it is they are making to do sense of the state of affairs â⬠Moon ( 1999 ) Looked at how contemplation is linked to larning to include it as a procedure which restructures the manner the head thinks about issues to suit new larning or to upgrade old acquisition. Within Vocational instruction and the convergence between that of go toing college and that of pattern within the work topographic point. Analyse the manner in which your has been put together etc ( eg Comparisons between journals/diary/log ( eg Moon ) and comparing between possible different ways of showing the material-written, taped, drawings, maps, pictures ( eg Morgan, Buzan ) etc Journal Theorists over the old ages have defined diaries in different ways. Jennifer Moon has explored how journal authorship has many intents and will come in many signifiers. A diary can give a sense of ownership of acquisition, enhances larning through authorship and encourages metacognition. Metacognition is a word that appears many times. Professor Michael Martinez from Department of Education at the University of California says ââ¬Ë this definition will go more elaborate and complete as our understanding grows. Many instructors would depict Metacognition, rather tolerably, as ââ¬Å" believing about thought. â⬠But I would suggest a more precise definition: Metacognition is the monitoring and control of idea ââ¬Ë . ( Martinez, 2006 ) Flavell defines metacognition as ââ¬Ëknowledge and knowledge aboutâ⬠¦ anything cognitive ââ¬Ë or ââ¬Ëanything psychological ââ¬Ë ( Flavell, 2006 edition ) is this excessively general? Professor Michael Martinez I feel has descri bed this approximately right. The diary entries for this assignment have been used as a reminder to what has taken topographic point over the last term. Although they have non covered every scholar who has participated in this pilot it gives an over position of some of the troubles which have surfaced and a few suggestions should the pilot run the undermentioned twelvemonth. My return on a diary for the scholars to utilize while working on this pilot came in the signifier of a work battalion The work battalions provide a structured method of supervising advancement every bit good as assisting scholars to pull off their ain acquisition efficaciously, to raise assurance and to better their accomplishments through puting ends and SMART marks. Developed accomplishments of puting SMART action programs Targets have become smarter and scholars have become more motivated and marks have been achieved. More assurance in discoursing their strengths, accomplishments and personal marks. More successful in run intoing deadlines, organizing themselves and pull offing their ain acquisition. A Over all the pupils have become brooding in what they do Researching personalised acquisition helped me understand a little more into what I was really supposed to develop in this pilot ââ¬Å" it is shown that the attack induces constructions on the appraisal jobs and larning objects, severally, that can function as a footing for an efficient adaptative appraisal of the scholars ââ¬Ë accomplishments, and for choosing individualized learning waies. â⬠( Heller, Steiner, Hockemeyer, & A ; Albert, January 1 ) What is brooding pattern? Debate the influence of theoreticians, eg: Dewey, Schon, Kolb, Mezirow, Habermas, Friere, Boud, Keogh etc.. ( Moon and Hillier have good mentions to these ) ( LO 1 ) Brooding pattern in simple footings is larning from experience, every instructor has done this. There are many different theoreticians who have given their ideas to reflective pattern. All have their ain consumption on how it should be done. As portion of any learning making this is now the needed acquisition. You as a instructor will analyze and debate the influence of theoretician and how they may outdo suit your demands when reflecting on a session you may good hold taught that twenty-four hours. The likes of Donald Schon who in the 1980s ââ¬Ë invented the term ââ¬ËReflection -in -action ââ¬Ë to us, believing on the move this is when you would be reflecting while learning and accommodating you learning to possible tempers and state of affairss. This is something which has ever been carried out but had ne'er been defined. He thought instructors had in his footings become ââ¬Ëtechnicians ââ¬Ë by this he was mentioning to instructors who carried out the undertaking of learning for administrations to cover instruction jobs which occurred. The teachers themselves had non queried their values to how they taught. Some of his positions ran aboard David Kolb who I feel was one of the chief subscribers to how contemplation is now perceived. A few old ages before Donald Schon came up with his theories John Dewey created a theory based on five strands of theory these were adapted by theoreticians Mezirow and Freire who were looking into how scholars could treat critical reflecting, they wondered if acquisition was a signifier of a rhythm wh ich would get down out as an experience developing into contemplation one time reflected upon leads to action and so becomes a concrete experience. The illustration they gave was a instructor has an brush with an angry pupil who failed an test. They labelled this as the experience. The contemplation was would be them seeking to explicate and do sense of the experience and comparison with other experiences, was it the same or was it a new experience.Talking to other instructors who may besides confront same state of affairss. This would so take to a class of action would so take to farther contemplation. Kolb subsequently refined this procedure of contemplation farther by dividing it into two activities, comprehending and treating followed by a concluding phase called ââ¬Å" Abstract Conceptualization â⬠In the Critical Reflection phase inquiries are asked about the experience in footings of old experiences, in the Abstract Conceptualization phase, we look to happen the replies. We come up with decisions and organize thoughts about experiences learned. From these thoughts came Experiential acquisition rhythm Which have been adapted by many theoreticians through the old ages? ( The Internet TESL Journal, 1997 ) Kolb in my eyes simplified the theories of Schon, Dewey Mezirow and Freire. Why I feel Kolb ââ¬Ës learning rhythm is used to great extent as a larning tool in instructor preparation classs. Stephen Brookfield breaks down contemplation into premises.Paradigmatic premises as the hardest of three to bring out. This relates to facts which we know to be true. Brookfield so says it would take a considerable sum of contrary grounds and disconfirming experiences to alter them, but one time changed the effects for our lives are explosive. The other two are normative and causal premises What are the features of a brooding practician? ( discuss checklist eg Hillier ) ( LO 1 ) In footings of analyzing the situation/theme you have identified, what theoretical account of brooding pattern have you found most utile? ( eg Ghaye and Ghaye, Brookfield, Peters, Burgess, etc etc Through my research it was proven that we as the instructors can merely help in the contemplation procedure, we can merely supply the construction or the stimulation to steer the scholar, it is up to learner to pull out their ain experiences and develop their ain ideas on how they may come on or better. The scholar can merely better if the scholar wants to do that attempt. Habermas said that he thought ââ¬Å" self-reflection needed one portion of yourself to be split from the other in such a mode that the topic can be in a place to render assistance to itself. ( Habermas ) Although this seem a good remark at first, I would happen this peculiarly difficult to transport out, allow entirely a pupil with a naif attack to this construct. How could you divide yourself from the undertaking? The thought is to be able to self ââ¬â reflect. A 2nd party is so needed, perchance the instructor would necessitate to step in to ease, is this non what we do? In my sentiment, a more realistic and manageable attack would be that of Stephen Brookfield Stephen Brookfield used a procedure known as the four critical reflective lenses. Unlike Habermas this brooding pattern is broken down into four countries all trusting on different state of affairss. Brookfield explains that the four countries are: Our car lifes as pupil and instructors The instructors looking at ourselves from the other side of the mirror, linking us to what the pupil would see. This would transport out through personal self- contemplation as Habermas had based his brooding pattern on. Using Personal reflective pattern you will go cognizant of matter-of-fact premises on how we teach. Brookfield so says that ââ¬Å" self-reflection can a times be less painful than subjecting ourselves to the examination of others â⬠, this I find really true being a private type of individual. Once we understand what this all means we can so travel on to the following phase. Our pupils ââ¬Ë eyes. This I used in my ain instruction idea I could see how pupils had perceived me by associating back to myself as an learner and my lector seeking to explicate to me how I had gone astray on a theoretical account, learning methods although different so still had the same immature pupils as of today, unsure and needing support. Although this was my reading on what I saw, my pupils had different thoughts acquiring to cognize the pupil is easier than acquiring their regard and trust. Without these two standards it is difficult to acquire any accurate feedback. In category if pupils look bored or have lost involvement attempt to travel on to a more interesting subject or present a practical activity Donald Schon describes this as contemplation in action. This has worked for me although non ideal for this E2E group. Groups such as 2nd or 3rd twelvemonth have fallen into the Brookfield class every bit Brookfield as predicted the longer you work with the group regard and trust can boom. Colleagues ââ¬Ë Experiences Peer observations giving feedback have been used during this pilot although non in this peculiar session but with this group. The feedback from co-workers ever welcome particularly from person who can give critical contemplation and advice. Theoretical literature this can sometimes assist us to gain what we thought were countries of possible bad or wrong instruction, but happen this is non ever the instance it can be down to possible state of affairs that we may hold been put into.Example Not hold the right resources for the occupation or perchance being chosen to learn a topic best suited to person with back land cognition and site experience. This is non to state that with experience this would non come. What are the advantages and defects of these theoretical accounts? ( LO2 ) What has your selected theoretical account of brooding pattern enabled you to see and gain? ( eg impact of state of affairs on colleagues/student perceptual experiences ref: Brookfield or function of the formalizing organic structure in this state of affairs ref: Ghaye and Ghaye, larning that has occurred ( Atkins and Murphy ) ( LO 2,4 ) What has aided or hindered your contemplation and brooding pattern? eg: your ain personality, characteristics of the environment in which you work, mentors/work shadowing/emotional involvement/ etc.. Moon, King and Kitchener, Boud etc ( LO 3 ) The category have struggled with the idea of holding to pass clip reflecting on what they have achieved in their practical Sessionss in the workshop. Development of reflecting has non come easy to many of the scholars. Many of the group happen it difficult to show themselves, either through authorship or verbal communicating. The group happen it difficult to concentrate for more than 20 proceedingss at a clip. So interrupting the Sessionss down to smaller Sessionss meant that we did n't acquire to a sufficient phase to reflect on anything. Barriers to the pilot Some scholars were negative to the idea of taking on excess work on top of the E2E and Diploma, although this pilot was non explained to the group as excess work in any manner. I have besides found many of the staff to be in a negative mentality when seeking to discourse the result of such a undertaking. This in bend has meant I have had to travel to other sections in the college those of which are besides transporting out other countries of the pilot to discourse this. The individualized work battalion developed for this pilot has had many alterations ; this is due to the practical theoretical accounts and strategy of larning altering about once a term. This so alters the practical theoretical accounts list. The pupils find this off seting and in some instances put the contemplation back a phase or two, as the scholar thinks they are come oning merely to happen the work burden go oning. Foils to the pilot The foils are at that place to equilibrate out the barriers and there are several co-workers that I have that want to see this pilot win. The caput of School has been behind the pilot and has been a cardinal protagonist in the backup of this. He has spoken in deepness to different caputs of school to assist happen the resources to help with the development of this, using the aid of other members of staff in other sections, enabling the group to hold the right schoolroom to work from and to associate both our practical and personalised learning Sessionss. Another foil has been that some scholars have now developed an understanding why contemplation is needed to assist better their result and development. What is the following measure in footings of the results of your contemplation, ( eg: Kolb, Mc Niff Action Research, Schon/your PDP/training ) My following measure to developing this isâ⬠¦ â⬠¦ â⬠¦ â⬠¦ â⬠¦ â⬠¦ â⬠¦ â⬠¦ â⬠¦ .. What will you make to set the benefits of this contemplation into pattern ( eg course of study devt-Race, Gibbs/curriculum direction: Preedy, Levacic, Lumby, /Team building-Handy/ partnership Huxham, Childs/ motive etc etc ( LO 5 ) And in footings of your brooding capablenesss: ( eg: continue to mention to theoretical accounts of brooding practice/ mentor/critical friends/action research/team meetings/ Moon ( LO 5 ) PS usage as many mentions in the reader as possible
